That's a teaser for Zblu Cops, a French comic book put out by THESE DUDES.

Quite possibly my favorite artists ever right now. A lot of the stuff they do is in French, but if you wanna experience the joy that is their comics, read THIS BOOK. You will not regret it. It is perfect. From the artwork, to the designs, to the writing, it is an amazing thing.

I really wish their stuff would get translated into English more often. Especially Zblu Cops. It's like everything I want Zeus Guy to be.

My friends went to a local Gameworks (it's like a giant arcade) and played the SHIT out of this game. It's so awesome and cartoony, and you feel like you're ACTUALLY shooting a gatling gun at giant robots. One of the most rewarding experiences ever. And there's a weapon called the COLOSSUS MISSILE. AND IT MAKES A GIANT MUSHROOM CLOUD WITH A FROWNY FACE ON IT.

If you haven't read Umbrella Academy, shame on you. It is an amazing comic series. And it seems a lot of that influence is creeping back into Gerard's music.

Although I haven't really played any of the games, I've always been a fan of Devil May Cry from a distance. The main trailer for the 3rd game is still one of my favorite game trailers, if not THE favorite. I think the series as a whole is one of the best things to happen to modern gaming, and its attitude and tone is definitely an influence on me.

Not sure what to think about this reboot(?) Capcom is putting out. Seems everyone is pissy over Dante's new look. I can't say I disagree. It's definitely less interesting, and the best part about Dante is he was cool WITHOUT smoking. The creator made sure to exclude that cliche character trait.

But fanboy stuff aside, that's an awesome trailer. Rad music mixed with rad action makes for a happy Gene. I just hope they listen to people's complaints and figure out a way to save this from mediocrity.

I don't know what this is, but I want it...NOW.

Argh, I knew John Su was awesome at illustrating in Flash, but ANIMATION, TOO?

I think just in terms of visuals, he's right up there with Adam Phillips. Adam just has more skill with actual animation.

Either way, I still have a LOT to learn. :C

This tops even John Su's work. For those of you who don't yet know about this, it's called Wakfu and it is amazing. It's animated in Flash, which is mind-blowing. But I assume they do a lot of post production work on it in After Effects. Either way, it's gorgeous and awesome and you should try to find the show and watch it.

The game the series is based on is also made in Flash, and it's pretty cool as well.

So apparently, Hyperboy has gained quite a bit of extra love lately. How did I miss this stuff??

This fella makes cool sprites for the Mugen game engine. I think he might have asked permission to use Hyperboy a while ago, but I totally forgot about it. People will sometimes ask to use Hyperboy for cameos and then nothing ever comes of it. But this sprite is looking badass! I'm totally excited to play this! :D

This is also pretty neat. Definitely flattering to see somebody put in the time to make something like this. :)

I honestly never thought someone would ever make a Hyperboy AMV. The choice of music is a bit odd (even though I have seen Hollywood Undead in concert and I like em, I just don't think it fits Hyperboy that well...) I also wish the compression and stuff wasn't so shitty, but I really appreciate them taking the time to make this! It's very awesome! :)

SEND ME THE STUFF YOU GUYS DO. I LIKE SEEING IT.

Fun Facts!

- Pibbles has a medical condition called Elasticitis. It makes his body extremely rubbery, and makes him impervious to damage.

- Zeus will sometime use Pibbles in battle, either as a shield against projectiles, or as a..."live" round in his Popgun. Don't worry about Pibbles, though! He loves being a part of the battle, and isn't hurt by any of it.

Zeus Guy: Epic Detective

For those of you who don't read my deviantART journal, I have some big news:

I have started pre-production on a pilot episode for Zeus Guy: Epic Detective.

It will be an 11 minute spectacular, full of explosions and jokes and jokesplosions. I have several good friends helping me out with it. We will soon be finishing up recording the audio, and it's going grrrrreat! Once the voices are recorded, I will start punching out an animatic...with my fists. I have no idea how long production on the pilot will take, given its length. But, I wouldn't expect it TOO soon. I would like to have it done before the end of the year. But, we'll see!

I'm gonna start posting the model sheets I made, so you guys can get used to seeing those characters. I'll also post production stuff, but I'm also probably gonna set up a separate Zeus Guy blog, one that doesn't share space with all my video links and such. Once we go heavy into production, I will need lots of support from you guys! Both spiritual and financial. We take compliments, hi-fives and checks. I'll probably put up a donate button, and provide various incentives to donating moneys.

Smaller shittier news:

I finished 8 pages of a Kill All Superheroes comic for Zuda. Of course, with my luck, they stopped doing competitions just as I was about to submit it. Soooo, yeah. I can't post it on here yet, on the off chance that they'll still want it. It's kind of limbo right now. But, I'm really proud of the comic, and you guys will see it sometime soon, I hope. Davis Donovan fans unite!

In other news, my internship at Radical Axis will be drawing to a close soon. It's been fun, but I'm glad to be coming back home. You really don't know how comfy you are at home until you're in a strange city at a new job, with no friends in the area. It's been a little rough, but I made it out alive.

Sorry I haven't been posting more stuff! Nothing's really blown my mind lately, which is unfortunate. If you wanna see cool Flash animation, go to ColdHardFlash. They always post neat vids.

I finished a 9 page pitch bible for my series, Zeus Gai. I'm still debating whether or not I should post it...I probably will, but on deviantART. I might post some character art here, though. This blog needs some more actual artwork from me. :\

Here is the label for the DVD that will pop out of the case I mentioned in my previous post. Damn, that was a run-on sentence. Wait, who cares, it's a blog.

The idea here is that this is the skull of the robot featured on the DVD case. It will look good when it's put together, I HOPE.

Like.....super good. Like, I enjoyed it more than any other movie this summer. It also helps that it was written by the two awesome dudes that made Clone High, which I didn't find out until after the movie. So yeah, I recommend the movie.

What is with this trend? It's getting out of control. Anytime a movie is "indie" or otherwise considered to be away from the mainstream, they ask some 12 year old to draw the movie poster to keep it "UNDERGROUND" and "HIP"!

This isn't to say I don't like the movies. I think the movies shown here are great. But, at some point this trend needs to stop. It stops being cute when you realize the sheer number of movies that are using this style of cover art.

Let's have some more explosions on the cover, people. Seriously.

Birthday Suit

So, my birthday came and went. I am now 2 decades old. Hurray!

The lovely Rachel was here for the weekend. We had a good time just hanging out. I got a couple of sweet shirts, and some moolah. Overall, a pretty fine weekend.

I watched Memories, a collection of 3 anime short films. I'd say the quality of the story improved with each one. The third story, Cannon Fodder, was probably my favorite. Yes, it was. *nod*

I saw Inglorious Basterds. It didn't like it. Everyone is pissing themselves about it, but I thought it was very forced and Tarantino is totally out of ideas. He's just pandering to the crowd, and everyone is buying into it. His movies used to push the limits, now they just kinda simmer there, with the occasional violent scene to keep it "Tarantino-ish". Ah well. If you like it, you like it. If you hate it, hi-five.

THE FUTURE IS NOW

A friend of mine bought some of the nicotine-free cigs and we were trying them out. It's pretty awesome. We get to look cool and pretend to be all of our favorite cigarette smoking characters, WITH NO DAMAGE TO OUR LUNGS.

It works through some kind of voodoo, but basically the "smoke" you breathe out is water vapor. It's totally harmless, and only smells like faint java, vanilla, cherry or whatever other flavor you buy. The flavors are subtle and non-invasive, but too much can get kinda obnoxious and it doesn't taste too good. But, you get used to it. And that's a small price to pay for harmless smoking.

I guess it helps real smokers too, since the nicotine cigs have no tar or any of that BAD STUFF. And it gives them their fix without having to go outside or annoying the people around em. I can support that.

Also, the price is very fair for the length of time that you can reuse em. For smokers, it comes out way cheaper down the line.

MORAL: NOW YOU CAN LOOK COOL AND NOT KILL YOURSELF.

Here is a Modest Mouse video directed by Heath Ledger, before his death. I think this video shows how much you can get out of very basic animation coupled with a powerful song. I've always enjoyed animating to music, because you get away with so much more. As long as you do it right, and sync up major events to dynamic parts of the song, you can usually turn a decent animated short into an excellent one.
