Collage of Bad Art

Collage of Bad Art

What is with this trend? It's getting out of control. Anytime a movie is "indie" or otherwise considered to be away from the mainstream, they ask some 12 year old to draw the movie poster to keep it "UNDERGROUND" and "HIP"!

This isn't to say I don't like the movies. I think the movies shown here are great. But, at some point this trend needs to stop. It stops being cute when you realize the sheer number of movies that are using this style of cover art.

Let's have some more explosions on the cover, people. Seriously.

  1. I think this is a trend that won't die too soon.
    Unfortunately....

  2. It's because it was (supposedly) quirky and unusual...like the movies: refreshing in a time of same old same old.. But now it does sort of seem like it's just becoming the face of the 'non-mainstream movies' genre... I duno.
I think there's a way to do quirky that incorporates a bit more professionalism and class.. Or maybe I'm crazy for believing so.

  3. I think there's always other options. If there's other movies coming out that DON'T use that method of advertising, then there's no reason why they should abuse this one.

  4. They should hire illustrators to do totally rad covers. They don't all have to look indie. I think people could come up with some really beautiful DVD covers if they were given the chance!

  5. A new "look" needs to be created for indie movie posters/cover art. And I think that when people recognise the need/opening for it and stop allowing mediocrity in that field, it'll change.
